What it is
This code is assigned to a global service; no country or territory assignment is listed. Service availability and call completion are not established here.
Inmarsat global network
ITU lists +870 for the Inmarsat global network. It is a satellite-network destination code, rather than a country or a precise device location.
An older label such as Single Number Access does not establish which service a terminal supports today. For calls made from a satellite terminal, follow the instructions for that terminal and provider; this reference does not supply a universal outgoing sequence.
Former Inmarsat ocean-region codes
KDDI announced that the former ocean-region destination codes would be unified under +870 on 1 January 2009: Atlantic Ocean East +871, Pacific Ocean +872, Indian Ocean +873 and Atlantic Ocean West +874.
These old ocean-region labels explain historical references. They are not a current choice of country code and do not describe how to place an outgoing call from a satellite terminal.
